See How the 2019 Toyota Highlander Compares to the 2019 Nissan Pathfinder, the 2019 Honda Pilot and the 2019 Ford Explorer
When shopping for a roomy three-row SUV, there are quite a few options that may come to mind: the Toyota Highlander, the Nissan Pathfinder, the Honda Pilot, and the Ford Explorer. As you may know, all options are spacious and can transport anything you need to bring along for the ride. In addition, all vehicles have a generous amount of cargo space to store groceries, luggage, and everything in between. Although all of these SUVs have their advantages for drivers, we here at Lakeland Toyota believe the Toyota Highlander stands out in multiple ways.
Let’s take a closer look at the Highlander compared to the Pathfinder. You will soon see that the Highlander has more to offer its drivers when it comes to standard safety features and passenger space.
2019 Toyota Highlander vs. 2019 Nissan Pathfinder
- The Toyota Highlander is available in a hybrid version, but the Nissan Pathfinder is not.
- The Highlander can seat up to eight passengers, while the Pathfinder only has room for seven friends or family members.
- The Nissan Pathfinder can only be equipped with a 3.5L V6 engine that pumps out 284 horsepower. There are three engines with the Highlander: a 2.7L inline four, a 3.5L V6 that delivers 263 horsepower, and a 3.5L V6 engine with electric assist for a total output of 306 horsepower.
- Both vehicles come standard with front-wheel drive, but you can upgrade both vehicles with all-wheel drive.
- Every Toyota Highlander model comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P), which includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning system, automatic high beams, and other advanced features. The Pathfinder only comes with automatic emergency braking and rear parking sensors. If you want more safety features, you are going to have to pay more money out of pocket.
Now, let’s see how the Toyota Highlander compares to the Honda Pilot. The Highlander has a slight edge over the Pilot, and you will soon see why. Not only does it offer a lower MSRP, but it is also easier to maneuver.
2019 Toyota Highlander vs. 2019 Honda Pilot
- Although both are three-row SUVs, the Pilot is slightly bigger than the Highlander. If you’re looking for a vehicle that won’t take up as much space in your garage, the Highlander is the better option.
- You will only find one engine option under the hood of the Honda Pilot, and it is a 3.5L V6 that delivers 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. Including the hybrid option, the Highlander does offer a total of three engines.
- The Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) safety package offers automatic high beams, while the Honda Sensing does not.
- The Highlander has a slightly lower MRSP when compared to the Pilot three-row SUV.
- The Highlander can be equipped with an optional rear cargo window that will open separately from the rest of the liftgate door. That way, you can store smaller packages with ease. Unfortunately, the Honda Pilot’s rear cargo window does not open.
The Toyota Highlander does have a more luxurious feel when compared to the Ford Explorer. Although the Explorer does come with three engine options, it is also not available as a hybrid version—which is important to some of our customers.
2019 Toyota Highlander vs. 2019 Ford Explorer
- The interior of the Toyota Highlander has a more premium feel when compared to the Ford Explorer. The interior of the Explorer may look a little more outdated to some due to its plastic finishes.
- Ford offers a Ford Smart & Safe package, but it is not a standard feature like you will find with the Toyota. Remember, the Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) technology suite comes started on all Highlander models.
- The Highlander can carry up to eight passengers, but the Ford Explorer can only carry up to seven. If you have a growing family, you may want to go with the Highlander.
- Are you going to take long road trips around Florida? If that’s the case, passengers in the Toyota Highlander are able to recline the middle and third-row seats for maximum comfort. You will not be able to sit back and recline the Explorer’s third-row seats.
- When your Highlander is equipped properly with the V6 engine, it will be able to tow up to an impressive 5,000 pounds. Only Ford Explorer Sport or the Platinum trim levels can tow that much, which means you will have to pay more for the higher trim levels.
