Moving up, the Highlander XLE trim level features:
- Pushbutton start
- Leather upholstery
- Heated front seats
- Sunroof
- Universal garage-door opener

- Navigation system
Optional features for the Highlander XLE include a Blu-Ray DVD entertainment system and captain chairs which will replace the second-row bench seat.
The Limited Trim is available with the standard V6. Limited Highlanders include 19-inch wheels, a blind-spot monitoring system, second-row captain's chairs, rear parking sensors, heated and ventilated front seats, premium audio, and a power front passenger seat. A panoramic glass roof is an individual option.
In the Highlander XLE and Highlander Limited trims, a feature called Driver Easy Speak employs a microphone to pipe front-seat voices to back-seat occupants—making a message to third-row kids so much easier and calmer.
Top of the trim line is the Platinum Package. The Highlander Limited Platinum includes the Driver Technology Package (Lane Departure Alert with Automatic high beams, Cruise Control, Safety Connect, and pre-collision with Dynamic Radar); a heated steering wheel, heated captain's chairs, rain-sensing wipers, and a panoramic sunroof.
Also, for 2016, all Highlander models with a V-6 engine include the Towing Package, which accepts up to a 5,000-pound pulling capacity. This great hauling bundle includes a heavy-duty radiator, transmission oil cooler, engine oil cooler, 150-amp alternator, and 200-watt fan coupling.
2016 Toyota Highlander Powertrains
The 2016 Toyota Highlander offers a four-cylinder or V6 engine selection with a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive for most of the models (see separate page for Hybrid edition). All are fuel-efficient and smooth-running -- whether you need to run errands around town -- or you’re driving cross-country to visit friends or relatives.
The base 2.7-liter four-cylinder comes synchronized with a six-speed automatic and is available only with front-wheel drive. It generates a solid 185 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque for an easy ride.
Most Highlander models will come with the 3.5-liter V6 engine that creates a beefy 270 horsepower and 248 pounds-feet of torque. It’s paired with a six-speed automatic, but can be paired up with either with front- or all-wheel drive. It’s a smooth, strong, and fuel-efficient choice.
For 2016, all V6 (non-hybrid) engine driven Highlander models will include a towing package that grants them to tow up to 5,000 pounds. The four-cylinder versions allows up to 1,500 pounds.
The 2016 Toyota Highlander’s Loaded with Safety Features
